Insulin resistance improvement and serum metabolomics of Hibiscus esulentus L. in patients with impaired glucose tolerance

Background/Aim. Prediabetes (PD) refers to the condition in which blood sugar level is higher than normal but has not reached diagnostic criteria for diabetes mellitus (DM) yet. Impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) a major prediabetic symptom since most patients with type 2 DM have progressed from previous PD phase. The aim of study was observe changes serum metabolomics IGT treated Hibiscus esculentus L. (H. esculentus) combined change lifestyle. Methods. Sixty were divided into two groups. In one group, subjects made life-style (LC simple diet control), and other group lifestyle H. (LCH group) treatment daily consumption 20 g dried fruit tea. compare glucose, homeostasis model assessment-estimated insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) index, after 60-day clinical observation period. Results. There no statistical significance between groups by end HOMA-IR index LCH lower LC (1.7 ? 1.1 vs. 2.4 1.2, p = 0.030). Serum revealed that levels d-galactose, d-glucose, turanose, uric acid significantly those (16.7 3.9 mmol/L 21.2 ?2.9 mmol/L, 101.5 40.2 132.9 36.7 1.8 1.6 3.76 2.46 44.56 15.7 ?mol/L 67.8 23.5 ?mol /L, respectively). lactic conjugated linoleic (3.3 0.5 2.3 0.8 6.9 6.1 2.1 1.2 Conclusion. esculentus, lifestyle, can reduce multiple monosaccharides patients. Regulation metabolism may be potential mechanism how reduces resistance.
